4th International Day of Yoga observed in Golaghat

Golaghat, June 21: The 4th International Day of Yoga was observed in Golaghat district today with various programmes. The day was centrally observed by the district administration at a programme held at the Cricket Indoor Stadium of the Golaghat District Sports Association (GDSA) here in association with AYUSH and Patanjali Yoga Samiti.

The event was ceremonially inaugurated by MLA, Khumtai, Mrinal Saikia by lighting the ceremonial lamp. A mass demonstration of Common Yoga Protocol was also held at the venue from 7 am. Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dhiraj Das and senior officials and staff of the district administration and leading citizens took part in the mass yoga demonstration. Around 500 people participated in the yoga demonstration.

A discussion on the philosophy of yoga was also organized to mark the day. Retired teacher and filmmaker Dinesh Gogoi chaired the discussion which was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra. Nodal Officer, AYUSH, Dr. Ranjit Das and speakers from Patanjali Yoga Samiti also spoke on the various benefits of yoga and stressed on the need to practice yoga regularly.

A yoga competition was also held among the public at the venue and prizes distributed among the winners. A cultural programme to mark the occasion was also held at Golaghat District Jail.

Similar programmes were also held at the sub-divisional, block and gaon panchayat level across the district.
